London (England, UK)

City: London
Kingdom: United Kingdom
County: Greater London

Interesting Facts:

- The name the city first received was Londinium by the Romans in AD 47

- London is the largest city in Europe

- Richard the Lionheart introduced swans to Britain in the 12th century, from Cyprus

- During the Saxon period of occupation London was known as Lundenwic

- The London Underground is the oldest underground railway network in the world

- The GDP of London is significantly larger than that of several European countries, including Belgium and Sweden

- Stalin, Lenin, and Trotsky met at the now demolished Brotherhood Church on Southgate Road in Hackney for a meeting of the (banned) Russian Social Democratic Labour Party in 1907. There is a Tesco Metro on the site now

- There are several abandoned Tube stations, many of which are used for filming and even private parties, including Down Street, closed in 1932

- Voltaire, Edgar Allen Poe, Ho Chi Minh, Mahatma Gandhi, Vincent Van Gogh, Sigmund Freud, and Hitler's older half-brother all lived in London for a time

- It is illegal to die in the Palace of Westminster

My Commentary: London has been important not only to the UK but to the whole world since it's the Majesty The Queen's home. Its mighty buildings, History and cultural variety has also been made the city special. In the recent decades, a careless administration and a new (lack of?) culture has transforming the city, pointing to a darker future.
