My Commentary: Passa Quatro is nowadays a cosy town which manages somehow well to preserve its historical and colonial buildings. Its centre is good for strolling and there are many options for restaurants, a very calm destination.

Interesting Facts:
- The town was a scenery for the Paulista Constitutionalist Revolution in 1932

- The city was declared a hydro-mineral spa in 1941 due to its various fountains of torio-radioactive waters, which are reputedly sought out for curing liver and kidney problems

History of Passa Quatro: The origin of the name comes from the explorations of the bandeirante Fernão Dias Paes Leme who was given instructions to pass over a river four times, thus "Passa Quatro". The first inhabitants settled the region in 1674. The region wasn't populated until the second half of the 19th century (seculo dezenove) when it became a district in 1854. In 1884, the Minas-Rio railway was constructed by the English and spurred its development. Emperor Dom Pedro II elevated the town to a city in 1888.

Anthem of Passa Quatro:
(audio not found)
Melody: Antônio Luiz da Silva
Lyrics: Ary Simões Coelho

Refrain
Como se encanta, com os encantos teus,
Quem te conhece, nossa linda terra!
És a paisagem em que a mão de Deus
Quis por a verde moldura da serra.

Os bravos bandeirantes, sonhadores,
Transpondo a esmeraldina Mantiqueira,
Nos seus anseios de desbravadores,
Pisam em Minas, pela vez primeira.

Era de agosto o temperado mês.
Passa Quatro nasceu naquele instante,
De mil seiscentos e setenta e três,
Entre o verdor da mata trescalante.

Querida terra, agora te saudamos!
Oh rica Estância de águas minerais,
Nosso lindo rincão, que tanto amamos,
Sala de entrada de Minas Gerais! (source)

My Trip to Passa Quatro in July 2015
My Commentary: After going to Cruzeiro to see the commemorations and parades of the Ninth of July (Revolução Paulista 1932) we went to Passa Quatro. It was my first time there and I got really surprised in how cosy this town is. Many historical buildings restored and in good conditions and a inviting place for strolling. This place was also part of the Civil War of 1932 and there were some signs and indications about that.

My Trip To Passa Quatro in 2016
My Commentary: That was the second time I went to Passa Quatro and the first time to spend the night. The ambience is very good, a very calm place where you can walk at the central area, no needing a car. The options of restaurants are good and the place is not dangerous. What got my attention is a program I learned about in which the citizens cooperates with the police in order to make the town a safer places and all the houses which agreed to the program have a sign on their wall possible to see from outside. Although it's a calm place, it's not boring at all if you check places to go and make a good program (as it's possible to see by the pictures below).

Passa Quatro Train Station
This steam locomotive (Trem da Serra de Mantiqueira) takes you to two other train stations, being the final one near a tunnel which was an important site during the Revolution in 1932. During the trip the passengers can watch live folk caipira music in the locomotive.
