Coat of arms of São Paulo State: The symbol was established on the occasion of the Constitutionalist Revolution in 1932 on the decree number 5.656 signed by the Governor Pedro de Toledo in August that year.
The flag of the state of São Paulo serves as one of the state's symbols, along with the state's coat of arms and anthem. It was designed by the philologist and writer Júlio Ribeiro in 1888, with his brother-in-law, Amador Amaral, a graphic artist. Originally intended for the entire country, the flag became the de facto symbol of the state of São Paulo after the Constitutionalist Revolution of 1932, but was only adopted officially in 1946 after the new federal constitution gave the states and municipalities the right to create their own symbols of flags, seals/coats of arms.
This version of the Paulista flag used during the Constitutionalist Revolution of 1932. It depicts the Paulista coat of arms inside the white circle instead of the typical Brazilian map.
